Losing weight while running a house full of kiddos can be tough. Knowing where to start can be even tougher. 😅
But I promise you do not have to take any drastic steps to get started with your fitness journey. You are probably already doing a lot of the things you need to be doing unknowingly!
So without further ado, here are the 3 things I would first start doing if I was beginning my fitness journey all over again as a new mama:
1️⃣ Prioritize Meal Planning and Prep:
Think about how much thought, time and effort you put into what your kids are eating. You want to make sure they’re getting well-rounded, healthy meals that will give them enough energy to sustain them and avoid blood sugar dips, right? So why would you do anything different for yourself?
Plan and prepare your meals in advance (Sunday nights are my go-to) to ensure you have healthy, balanced options available to grab from the fridge throughout the week. Focus on nutrient-dense foods like lean proteins, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. This helps avoid last-minute unhealthy food choices especiallyyy when you’re busy.
2️⃣ Follow a Program:
Just like meal prepping helps you stay on track with your diet, following a pre-planned workout routine can do the same by keeping you accountable with your exercise. By sticking to a workout plan, you can easily carve out time for exercise, ensure you’re targeting all major muscle groups within a week, and stay on track with your fitness goals. This one is a little easier than #1 considering all of the planning and prepping is done for you, you just have to show up! 😜
3️⃣ Include Your Kids in Your Exercise Routine:
It can be so hard to carve out alone time, especially in the summer when the kids are out of school. So why not make exercise a family affair by involving your kiddos?
Depending on their age, you can provide them with their own makeshift “weights” (pool noodles are great for this) so they can join along with their mama, or you can take them on walks/runs in the stroller. Orrrr if you’d rather just wait until nap time, this makes for the perfect time to get a quick workout in. 😋
